Tough match, played with pride…

Slough 3-1 Yateley

We knew it was going to be a tough one against 2nd in the league for an early away match, but went in positive & ready to enjoy the match.

…. And so it was, with lots of attack by Slough down their right flank…. Clare P harassed them well with great chasing back, allowing Carole to step in time & again with those magnificent block tackles! There was loads of hard work defending in the opening 10; Lianne, Flip & Carole communicating well… almost all of the time !!

We saw the strength of attacking speed by Yateley after 12 mins, with speed from Amber on the left, a switch through Lyse to the right, driving run by Gabi & a Classic Sweet Caroline conversion to slip the ball past the keepers legs… a surprising, but welcome 1-0 ahead!!!

This gave some confidence to the Yateley team to open up the game more… but also a bit more hunger from Slough. Switching their attack from their right to left, they found Ms Speedy long-legs who rivalled our very own ‘run, Amber, run’. She drove the attack from half way, beating 3 Yateley players on pace & crossing to top D where their high quality striker owned the well-placed strike past Caty… 1-1.

Yateley continued to absorb the physical & skilful pressure with Lyse heroically appearing to steal the ball time & time again & Emily keeping things calm with well placed passes as she settled in the defending centre-mid position.
We almost reached the relief of half time still at 1-1, but a defensive short corner on the whistle, a suspicious double-movement, & a well angled ball to the post meant the home team were 2-1 at the break.

Yateley kept their heads high with some fantastic tackles and interceptions by Hannah allowing Yateley to build their more standard attack in 2nd half. Millie had her debut & was continuously in a fab position to receive & run on the right and left wings. Gabi was all about base again & won short corners which lianne was unlucky not to convert.

The whole team put in huge effort with continued Slough pressure as recycled ball meant multiple waves of attack. Slough were finally able to break through with frenetic D activity, but great finishing shot at close quarters.

A final score of 3-1 to Slough, but a very proud effort by the ladies in red. Lyse was deservedly Player of the Match…& no DoDs today (didn’t hv the heart to raise Lyse’s navigational skills both too & from the pitch!!)

In their final match the ladies take on league leaders, Marlow, at home at 12pm - we’d be delighted to have your support!!
