Yateley 3-0 Phoenix Reading
Teams across the Club took 2 minutes for silent contemplation at the start of each match as part of Remembrance weekend.
Yateley L3s then took on Phoenix Reading in the first slot of the day.
It was a challenging yet rewarding game for the home team as they secured a well-deserved 3-0 victory over Phoenix Reading. Despite the tight contest, Yateley demonstrated strong possession, creating numerous chances and maintaining control throughout the match.
From the outset, the home side displayed impressive composure, with excellent communication and swift passing between players. This enabled a series of well-executed attacking plays, although Yateley’s defence kept them at bay early on.
The opening goal came courtesy of some great teamwork. A crucial tackle from Niamh in the defensive half sparked an attacking drive up the right side. Niamh’s precision pass found Caroline, who ran the baseline and wholloped a cracking crossed the ball into the D. Emily was in the perfect position to slot the ball home, giving the Red Army a well-earned 1-0 lead.
Caroline was also on the score sheet herself, doubling the lead with goal-hungry sweep when Flippa's short corner strike was rebounded by the Keeper.
In midfield, Ruth stood out with some dazzling stick skills, pulling off a series of deft touches and clever passes that helped break down P Reading's defensive lines. Her vision and composure under pressure were key to Yateley’s ability to dictate the tempo of the game.
At the back, Carole was a defensive rock. Her strength in tackles and ability to read the game ensured that Yateley never had an easy route to goal. She was solid in both one-on-one situations and aerial duels, making several crucial interceptions throughout the match.
While P Reading showed some promising spells of possession, they struggled to convert their territory into meaningful chances. Their attacks were frequently disrupted by Carole, Nicki, Flip & Lyss resolute defence and quick transitions, and they were unable to breach the backline.
In the second half, P Reading found more rhythm and confidence, playing some nice passing hockey, but the Yateley's defence remained unflappable, never allowing them to get close to threatening the goal.
The win was sealed with an amazing wobble and wobble from the 25 by Lyss....banana run along the backline and an acute angle to flip in off the inside of the keepers foot...MAGIC.
Overall, it was a comprehensive performance from the home team, who showed great skill, tactical awareness, and teamwork to come out on top. With a solid defensive display, brilliant midfield contributions, and clinical finishing, the Red Army deservedly took the another three points to move into 2nd spot on the table.
