Match Report: Ladies 3rd 12th Oct

Yateley 4-3 Basingstoke

A cold, afternoon for the ladies 3’s as the last home match of the day. After our sideline picnic from the lovely Chantal, whilst watching the other games, we were fuelled and ready for action. Push back and we were off determined not to be stopped by the bucketing rain playing with true Yateley spirit.

Pressure was soon put on early with a goal from Bstoke, but this didn’t dampen our spirits and the girls came straight back with a short corner. Now, given our ‘problems’ we had last week with our short corner routines, having practiced a few at training, the hard work paid off resulting in Chantal hitting the back of the net making it 1-1. Phew! With a continuous ‘ping pong’ game of hockey for the remainder of the half we finished 1-1 at half time.

With some wise words from our step in captain for the day, Carole and some motivation from JB we started the 2nd half on a high.

With the rain now plummeting down, Yateley ladies pushed on and the goals kept coming. With a fantastic slap shot from Hils now making it 2-1.

Catching our breath we maintained the pressure on stoke, with lots of block tackles disrupting their flow of game.

Back in their goal, keeping the pressure on with lots of shots, we eventually earned a short corner. ‘Here we go again’ comes to mind. But this time our routine proved successful with KJ making a cracking strike hitting the back board.

With motivation from Carole and our supporters we pushed on pressing hard, resulting in stoke not being able to get passed, which allowed us to continue to make the break.

Final few minutes were called and we were all scrambling around which resulted in Stoke mailing a break and catching our mids on the back foot making the score 3-3.
