Match Report: Ladies 2s 28 Oct

Newbury & Thatcham 2-0 Yateley

Today saw the welcome return of Hobbit from injury, Alana from holiday and Hattie & Flora back with the gang. With N&T3s sitting at the top of the league, it was always going to be a close game.

N&T put the pressure on from the start but the Yateley defence was a match for them and saw off a number of attempts on goal with saves from Gill and a great clearance off the line from Dobbers. Yateley then settled in and started to put some pressure on at the other end. Milly made some great runs along the back line on the right but unfortunately the resulting opportuntities couldn't be converted. Despite some amateur dramatics, colourful language and a green card for N&T, the first half ended 0-0 with Yateley feeling strong.

The match was won and lost in the first 10 minutes of the 2nd half. Hattie had a goal disallowed from a penalty corner as it was called too high for the first attempt on goal. N&T were quick out of the blocks after the disallowance, linked together some quick passes and got the first goal. They then swiftly followed up and got the second with a fluke nutmeg through the keepers pads. Yateley battled for the remainder of the game with strong pressure from Amber, Jules and Alana. Appeals and attitude galore from N&T was met with calm and solid play by Yateley with a good performance by the full Yateley squad.

Player of the match went to Dobbers for her heroics and J was happy in the knowledge that DoD was firmly secured pre-match by Amber.

A disappointing score for a really good game and a performance to be proud of.
