Hockey skills win the game!

Today the girls took on Fleet & Ewshot at home (Wellington) in bitter conditions. With 11 outfield players, the girls won the first half with two goals, one scored by Hattie Miles and the other by Alex Kelly. The third goal in the second half was a joint effort from Hattie and Alex.

Without a GK, the girls has to fight really hard to defend the goal and quick skills from the defence kept the opposition from scoring. Their one goal was as a result of a penalty flick being awarded against us. FEHC were relentless in their attack and the possession was almost equal, however, they relied on a particular skill consistently that YHC observed early in the game and made every attempt to shut down where possible.

The forwards led in the transition from defense to attack (and vice versa) and were instrumental in pulling the team together and closing the gaps and playing a wider game.

The girls have grown in their ability to read the game and execute skills appropriately and successfully, the development in the play as a team is clearly growing and the girls show a greater confidence and determination. A deserved win today!
