US Portsmouth 4-1 Yateley
Yateley Men’s 4’s travelled to US Portsmouth on the South Coast, for a rainy cold match.
We started with a peaceful minute of silence to pay our respects. We had a strong squad of 13, in preparation to battle with 2nd in the league. The first half saw us go 2-0 down, but we held our own by grabbing a few short corners, however, we could not convert.
The team gelled well together and played some good solid hockey. The half time talk from Captain Paul was ‘we are still in this match and have everything to play for’. This motivated the team well and saw us up our game from the 2nd half whistle.
Sadly, we conceded the third goal off of a counter-attack, but we soon got back in the game and managed get one back and unsettle the opposition. After the goal, there was a lot more attacking play from Yateley, and we started to look like the better side.
The game ended 4-1, but was not a true reflection of the match. The team was in good spirits after the match as we performed well just couldn’t get the goals in. Onwards and upwards to next week...
