Marlow 2-4 Yateley
The 4s took on Marlow 7 in a battle for 3rd place in the league. We had one game in hand, chasing their 23 points vs our 21.
The first 10 minutes were shaky as we got our eyes in. A few loose passes and needless misses put us on the back foot and we had to defend 4 consecutive short corners on the run. No goals for Marlow and we reset.
20 mins after a barrage of pressure, Marlow finally got one past us, 1-0. We were playing better at this point with more talk and better passing. Shortly before the half time whistle, with 2 slick passes behind which stood 130 years of combined age, Aiders snuck one past and levelled the score into the 2nd half, 1-1. A much needed bit of breathing room.
As the second half got under way, the team was fired up and got a quick goal on at 37 mins. A deft touch and some quick legs form Ollie West helping the team get back in front at 2-1.
Shortly after, some great link work between the forwards and a soft touch in by Kev put us 3-1 up. Marlow were rattled with their very own Dyer v Bowyer in fighting moment up front. We thought one of ours had upset them, but no, the pressure was getting them riled up.
The game played on with some lovely running up the left between Chris and Zac. Unfortunately, Marlow countered off a loose pass and capitalised getting the score back up to 3-2.
Thankfully we got a quick 4th back within a couple of minutes of their goal sealing the 2 goal lead again. Some lovely hustling by Henry in the D saw him push the winner in.
The score held at 4-2 with a great win for the team and a likely third place as we run down the last few games of the league.
Ollie West took a deserved MoM with too many DoD nominations to pick a clear winner (although Tom, Willie, Henry, Jason all got a few - 'well done' gents!)
