Match report - Trojans (3-2w)

Yateley's rivalry with Trojans over the years matches that of the El Classico. The explosive affair is always full of entertainment, flared tempers and bags of goals. A few new faces floated amongst the Yateley starting XI for todays game and they didn't disappoint, with Jim Boffin controlling the centre of the pitch in the opening stages. Possession was the key factor captain fantastic (David woods) hoped to establish throughout this battle. Showing plenty of promise and a well organised press, Yateley shone brightly and thoroughly deserved the early breakthrough when Stuart Brimble used some clever initiative to twist around the defence and hammer a cross chest high at Phil Cundy, who reacted sweetly to deflect the ball past a diving gk. Trojans were helpless, with mounting pressure in their 25 even allowed a surging run from Scott Grey (LB) to cut open their defence and shoot at goal. However, lack of concentration and discipline from Yateley late on, led to a shocking equaliser when an unmarked man tapped home a simple free hit much to the dismay of Dan Cundy who branded it "disgusting". The gaffer used a positive halftime pep talk to inspire Yateley to deliver the goods. Although Trojans started the better team second half, the creative display from the Yateley forwards showed real class. It didn't take long to regain a 2-1 lead after Jim Boffin and Dan Cundy tied knots in the opposition's defence, a slick pass soon landed at the feet of Phil Cundy who flicked a sexy reverse shot into the bottom corner for his second goal of the game. With their tails wagging, a fired up Yateley proved too strong for Trojans with 10 minutes to play, when Ali Hay swepped a powerful 45 degree pass into the path off David Woods, who smoothly deflected the ball into the top corner. At 3-1 all the points were heading to the away side, but when Yateley dropped to defensive mode it allowed Trojans to dictate the possession. They kept plugging away and demonstrated bounce-back ability when cooly slotting home from a set piece to set up a nail biting finish at 3-2 until the final whistle, which came shortly after much to the delight of the captain. Another 3 points and still climbing the league table.
