Hardworking 3rds fall at the last hurdle.

The Yateley boys were full of hunger against Bournemouth today, ready to bounce back from their disappointing defeat to an in-form Wimborne side last week. As the sun beamed down on the players, the early stages saw the fast paced opposition pounding the Yateley goal area, having the majority of possession but were unable to penetrate. Surprisingly, it was Yateley who took the lead from a well practiced short corner routine, where superman Dave Sumter drilled the ball home from the top of the D. It was short lived however, as Bournemouth's persistent goal threat paid off with two goals in 5 minutes to regain the advantage in this very open game. Having restructured to a 4-4-1-1 formation Yateley began absorbing more ball control and pressing the weakness in the Bournemouth defence. Shane Cresswell found himself wide open in the box late on in the half but unfortunately miss hit his shot, causing much confusion amongst the goalie and defenders. Thus resulting in Shane Cresswell out muscling a player to skilfully keep the ball in play and reverse it diagonally backwards into the path of Martyn Chapman, who powerfully smashed it into the net tying the game at 2-2 just before half time. The second period flourished with end to end activity, with Yateley having two clear cut chances to snatch back the lead, after clever link up play between David Woods, Daniel Cundy and Martyn Chapman but to no prevail. As the clouds started to descend, the fiery opposition started to panic, receiving two yellow cards for unsporting behaviour. Yateley couldn't capitalise on their good fortune especially when a disallowed Bournemouth goal let to a sharp break from Stuart Brimble, who was lucky not to be sin binned for an ugly shoulder barge running into the D. Never-the-less fitness played the finishing touches as even an outstretched Dave Sumter failed to stop a quick counter attack leaving Yateley outnumbered at the back and with a calm and collected manner Bournemouth slid the ball past a diving webby to steal all 3 points. Such a bitter end to a desired Yateley performance.
