Hopes dashed!

Swanage 3-1 Yateley

After back to back losses and a snow day last weekend the Mens 2s were buzzing to get back on track. However a 162mile round trip to a very strong, top of the table Swanage side was probably not what they wanted. Yet good vibes filled the air and determination and pride flowed heavily.

Captain Phil Cundy was back to full fitness and a new youngster bursting with energy came as big boosts for the mens 2s.

Battling the wind and the rain, and a last minute detour to sports direct as the lead man himself, Mr cundy forgot his shinpads, the day became harder.
The game started hard and fast with both teams carving chances and working hard to draw first blood. The captain leading by example, going on a fantastic run, turning the last defender inside and out 2x before shooting at goal, as he did so the defender made a brilliant block to deflect the ball wide. Yateley tails were up despite odds being heavily stacked against them. A few attacks later and Yateley should be ahead but the keeping and defending from Swanage showed why they don't let goals in at home.
Pouncing on a break away swanage attacked with pace, overloaded the defence and slotted home to take a 1-0 lead against the run of play in that moment.
Yateley werent deflated, they were hungry. Charging again we won 2 more short corners. The ball fell beautifully to CB, Justin Hatch, at the top of the D and with a smooth low drag, stuck it clean inside the left post! 1-1 and Swanage stunned!

The second half starzed the same, end to end battles and anyones game to win! Stuart Brimble found himself at the front post and passed to Phil Cundy at the back post, a certain goal had the keeper not got a toe on it to take it away from Yateley getting the lead. Swanage then showed why they mean business this season. 5 amazing passes from 1 D to the other and back of the net. Nothing Yateley could do but watch and acknowledge a stunning goal. One even GB Men would be proud of! Yateley battled and battled not to be defeated. A few short corner chances not given and a few half chances but we couldn't get it back. With 3 minutes to go, a good chance from yateley was intercepted and again on the break Swanage hit with pace. A final dream shattering goal to seal the win. A valiant effort from the mens 2s against tough opponents.

Yateley will go again next week at home to Romsey.
Please come support us we need as much as we can get!!

Man of the Match was Justin Hatch, 3 on the bounce now, who performed some defending heroics to keep the Yateley in the game and scored a great goal. First goal as CB for the 2s.
