Basingstoke 1-0 Yateley
Yateley mens 2s traveled down the road to Basingstoke this weekend for a clash at the bottom of the table. Both on only 2 points and similar results. Knowing that other opponents had tougher opponents this week, it was the chance for Yateley to secure their first win of the season and climb the table.
Battling the tsunami that gets us in Basingstoke, many players found it difficult to perform even the basic of skills; staying on their feet, holding on to their sticks or passing to a team mate.
The game was close with both teams fighting for the points. With the sides evenly matched it was bound to be a close result. The Basingstoke keeper saved 5 of the line to keep Yateley from scoring, and after young talent, Sammy, was only forced to save 4 shots in the game, Yateley looked the more likely to steal the win. However, Basingstoke managed to deflect a ball past both formidable Yateley CBs: James Woolner and Phil Cundy, who were blocking the sight of keeper. Sammy made a last ditch effort to save the ball but despite getting a touch on it, he couldnt keep it out of the goal. Yateley, knocking on the door still couldn't get the point they deserved.
So Yateley still struggling to get their first win of the season despite some impressive performances. They are guna have to dig in deep this season but hopefully next week can bring some happier news for the 2s.
Man of Match: James Woolner for his incredible defensive performance.
