Yateley 3-2 Basingstoke

It really was a game of two halves against a strong, but closely matched Basingstoke team... one consistency throughout was HOT HOT HOT weather!!

The home team started well... surprising themselves and confounding the oppo with some short, sharp passes up the right to put the ‘stoke defence under pressure.

The Press was Sorted this week, with a capital ‘S’ which meant we could take control of the midfield and keep possession... conscious that Basingstoke were strong and fast on the break if they linked through. With the continued pressure, Chantal Woodford smashed home the first goal!

Yateley possession continued, with the occasional through ball being easily managed by defenders Maddy Hall & Laura Crasten.
Another short corner won and the straight strike was saved... rebounding to player of the match, Anna Holden, whose quick wit sealed Yateley’s second before the half time break.

Tired legs ventured out second half, but the team dug in with some great running from Hils Hull, Rachel Salter and Freya Marshall. Basingstoke pushed an extra player forward and attacked with greater aplomb, playing to their strengths to split our defence... 2-1. Despite some cracking saves from new Keeper, Helen Hyde, another break brought the score level to 2-2.

The heat was really taking it’s toll, but Yateley finished with a final flourish; short corner won.... straight strike by Crasten and BOOM!! Back of the net to take the match 3-2!

Fab to have the team coming back together to give a great performance: this really brings confidence for the first league game next week!
