Isle of Wight 1-6 Yateley

The party bus set off early this week for a long journey to the Isle of Wight. After the team squeezed in the cars for the ferry, the day started right with a hot beverage in a seaside cafe. And the day just got better.

As the team took to the pitch, although the sideways rain started, the Ladies 1s were ready for a scrap. The defence absorbed some early pressure and the forwards took the momentum on. Working in very narrow channels, the team won some early short corners. Goal number one came from a short corner struck sweetly by Frances with a slight deflection by Gemma. The second followed shortly thereafter with a straight strike from Frances. By half time the ladies were 3 up with another short corner conversion, this time to Jen C-G.

Whilst the girls started the second half brightly, a lucky deflection from an early ball into the ā€œDā€ meant the score was 3-1. However, from there the girls took charge and immediately scored with a back post tap in from Becks. Next with her name on score sheet (and a debut goal too), Nat snuck in through the middle of the defence and scored with a reverse tap in. The girls maintained the pressure on the Isle of Wight, who falling apart at the seams, another short corner was awarded and Frances tapped in her own rebound to spend the rest of the game on jug avoidance.

An amazing 6-1 win with the team staying on the island for a mini tour to celebrate (with shots at the bar!!) was a great start to the weekend. Big thanks to Foley (YHC chair) for making the trip too.
