Caught short on the speedy breaks....

Yateley 3-5 Southampton Uni

After a narrow defeat in the pouring rain last week, the Ladies 1s lined up ready to face Southampton Uni with a winning attitude. They started the game hard and fast and put the pressure on in the first 5 minutes. After a fast break from the opposition they managed to find the back of the goal within the first few minutes.

After conceding another, the Ladies 1s took the chance on a fast break with a great ball in from Aimee, Lauren buried the ball to make it 2-1. Spirits seemed a bit low in the Ladies and unfortunately this led to another goal for Southampton just before half time.

Spirits seemed to lift after the half time team talk and they came out strong in the 2nd half. In their 3rd penalty corner of the game, Matthews managed to convert bringing it back to 4-2. They battled against a fast-breaking Uni team and unfortunately conceded on the break. With a fantastic run down the centre of the pitch and after skinning 2/3 players, Gemma buried the ball with a cracking strike from the top of the D. The final whistle ‘blew’ with a score of 5-3. The Ladies 1s will be back stronger and chirpier next week so Basingstoke, beware.
