Performance perfection = plus points!

Yateley 2-1 Basingstoke

Yateley L1s stepped out onto pitch in gale force conditions to take on Basingstoke 3s. Buoyed by the 5-3 victory last weekend the talk was about pressuring the ball in attack and working to create width on the pitch through defence and midfield. Both things were quickly put into practice with solid defence from Lizzie, Gemma and Jen CG enabling Yateley to really push forward in attack.

There was great movement off the ball in attack (Tom would be proud) creating lots of opportunities to penetrate the Basingstoke D. Ruth picked up the ball on the 25, drove through to the baseline and pulled the ball back, to a perfectly positioned Lynn on the P-spot, who calmly slotted the ball away.

The second half started with Basingstoke shuffling positions and players which meant they played a much more attacking game this half. A Yateley short corner, early in the second half, saw Gibbo fire the ball in from left slip to bring the score to 2-0. Nicki made some great saves but Basingstoke responded
quickly with a well worked goal to make it 2-1.

Yateley battled hard under pressure from Basingstoke but continued to create chances and win corners. We couldn't quite find the net again and the game finished 2-1 with a well deserved 3 points.

Today's game really showed Yateley team work and tenacity. Thanks to our supporters, especially the mini Gibbos, who stood and watched in that wind!

MOM - Ruth
