Rain, Hail and an incredible win! #winnerswearwetred

Yateley 2-1 Southampton Uni

The rain came and became relentless! Eventually we were blessed with hail and strong winds, making this game a massive struggle. We started strong and attacked with venom, there was no time to hang around when 3 points were there for the taking. Some pacey runs and a few half chances later, Yateley felt in control of the match. Craig Pearcy dribbled his way into the D and won us a short corner. Hatch injected the ball perfectly to the top and in form striker Lee Cresswell drag the ball into the gap that opened up on the right post. 1-0 up and in control.

Yateley then became as relentless as the rain that continued to ruin a cracking game of hockey from the warriors in red. Sharp passing and a wave of prolific attacks started panicking the uni side who adorned a half court press, allowing us to have possession and time a plenty. Another quick attack allowed Lee Cresswell open in the D to strike home for his 2nd of the match.

The hail picked up and Southampton Uni decided to press hard and high up the pitch whilst viability was low. With the pressure on and the rain blocking the eyes of the Yateley defence, the uni team began a wave of dangerous chances and we could only dump the ball away in panic. Eventually Southampton Uni won a controversial short corner and scored putting the score line back to only 1 goal!

To Yateley’s amazement the uni team backed off the pressure, going back to a half court press and allowing us to have full control of possession again. Knowing that the win was only moments away, Yateley passed the ball around and ran down the clock. With the final whistle sounding, Yateley roared with delight and relief!

Another fantastic win and back on top of the Table!!

Congratulations to Pask for winning man of the match for his fantastic performance in defence, with a special mention to Hatch who was runner up for the same reason.
