Cleeeeeaaaanoooooo!

Basingstoke 0-2 Yateley

After an emotional loss to the famously charming and gentle hamble side the week previous, the aspiring Yateley team were eager to get back on the pitch and give the good ole college try for their next win. This game would be played against a struggling Basingstoke side.

The Yateley team turned up bang on time to the Basingstoke pitch, apart from the famously tardy Mr Cresswell, and started their pre match ablutions for the upcoming events. The Yateley captain Darren Collins produced another incredible speech later decided by the team to be named "I have a dream". As the team listened to the crescendo that was the end of the speech, they wiped a tear from their eyes. Feeling more together than ever they marched to the pitch hand in hand to brave the hard times ahead.

With speeches done, an emotional coming together of men and a pre match prayer complete the warm up was the next job on the list. The warm up went without a hic up with great technical performances from David woods, the stretch master himself. Warm up done the teams gather into their huddles to get pumped up and cry their clubs name hammering on their chest as they do so. It is a great day! An emotional day! A day of passion and love for a mutually loved sport! The referees call the teams to position, take a deep breath and blow hard on there noise pipes to signify the start if the game. And so it begins.....

The first 10 minutes of the first half was all yateley. Strong, fast attacks from the forwards, the consistent grind of the midfield and the total patients of the defence was the perfect mixture creating a delicious cocktail of magnificent hockey resulting in the first goal of the game. A goal to Yateley! Perfectly poached by star forward Dougie Joyce. A bitter sweet success for man of the match and best debuter ever Matt "fists of steel" Rayers. With an apologetic look Dougie leads the team back to the half way line to restart the game.

With a goal in the bag Basingstoke turn up the heat and start to pick their performance up. The rest of the half consisted of waves of pressure from yateley forwards, followed by the selfless hard work from the midfield, with a pinch of relaxing patients and class from the defence which results in the yateley team keeping Basingstoke at bay to finish the half with a CLEEEEEEAAAANNNNOOOOOOO!!!!! (Clean sheet).

The team walked into the opposite goal eager to learn, eager for direction, eager for the words of there beloved leader. The words, like the touch of velvet refreshed the teams minds, motivating them to give their all, to give everything for glory!

The second half commences, with spectators on looking the game is in Yateleys hands. Yateley again showing the honour of the knights of old, the learning abilities of primary school age geniuses and their persistent attitude, the yateley team seem to be on top the rest of the game. Just then! A second goal of the game is scored! It's no other than Dan Jones the deflection master himself. With the well loved Irene routine in mind the ball is dispatched goalwards before being slickly deflected into the goal. Now all Yateley have to do is hold on. Hold on Yateley.........Hold on.........Hold on......... With the help from star goal keeper, player of The month and everyone's favourite Cresswell, Darren "the shrew" Cresswell, Yateley win the the game 2-0. CLEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAANNNOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!

The Yateley team, overwhelmed with emotion grasp the hands of the disheveled opposition tightly, consoling there tired and wheary souls, once again showing their humanity and class.
