Yateley 0-2 Phoenix Reading

The 3s gave a sterling team performance at the Red Fortress on Saturday against a well-drilled Phoenix side. First 10 mins showed Yateley to be a little tentative as we settled into the first league match with a fresh team.

Phoenix put together good attacks, thwarted by well-timed tackles from Lys & Megan. Niamh’s work rate paid off with tenacity to be applauded! Unfortunately the relentless attacks resulted in one slipping through to the back of the net by half time.

Second half saw a more settled Yateley team and an improved press, with players linking well together to get in the D for shots from Amber, and India finding good space. The attacks were well blocked by the oppo’s keeper to deny Yateley the equaliser.

Phoenix sprung forward on the counter attacks & we’re rewarded with a pretty spectacular air shot, whizzing past Helen’s helmet.

Yateley held the score line to the end, despite some goal line scrambles from Flippa & Lianne.

Man of the Match votes were spread, highlighting the team effort, joint winners were Martha, Niamh & Alyssa!!
