Top goals take the 2s to top of the table!!

Yateley 7-0 US Portsmouth

Ladies 2s had just about dried out from last week’s wet weather, with the sun now shining for their first game on home turf. With the excitement of another three points up for grabs, Captain Janette seemed to forget she would need her stick after the warm-up, leaving it in the cage and securing a DOD vote early on.

Yateley started the game with the same intensity as the previous week, not letting the fact they only had the bare 11 players hold them back. Eager to build on her hat trick at Fareham, Hattie opened the scoring to take Yateley into an early lead. Some expert hassling around the D from the likes of Emma and Lizzie soon helped Yateley to win a succession of short corners. After trying a number of short options, including the old switch-a-roo which successfully confused everyone (including Yateley), Jo was able to convert with a lovely little finish off the post.

As half time rolled around, Ladies 2s were hot but definitely not bothered with the 2-0 lead under their belt. A few wise words from Coach Phil and the ladies were ready for another half of very warm hockey.

Just like the previous week, Yateley found that extra gear and the goals soon came thick and fast. Alana claimed her first of the season, striking the ball through Portsmouth’s defenders. This was soon followed by Nat’s season opener, finishing off (not stealing) a great cross from Lizzie. Dobbers even ran the ball into the circle on a few occasions, unlucky not to convert but luckily avoiding any nosebleeds.

KJ and the rest of Yateley’s forward line continued the attacking pressure, confident in the knowledge that Hobbit and keeper Nicki were there to fend off the very few advances from Portsmouth.

Yateley’s fifth goal came when Nat decided to actually listen to Phil for once, positioned on the post to guide in another cross from Hattie. Not wanting to miss out on all the fun, Janette battled through the defence to strike from the edge of the circle and add her name to the score sheet. Nat made it three and a jug, tapping in the last goal to finish the game at a fantastic 7-0 to Yateley.

Two weeks into the season and Yateley Ladies 2s are now positioned at the top of the league table with every intention on staying there!

MOM - Emma for non-stop effort and hassling on the ball
DOD- Janette for leaving her stick in the cage AND paying her membership to now rivals Andover - haha!
