Farnham 1-4 Yateley
With the weather forecast predicting a 100% chance of rain, the hockey season was well and truly back for the Ladies 2s.
Travelling down to Fareham for the first league game and first game as a new squad, the 2s entered the match with the 'eyes down' mantra on the brain. Yateley were quick to assert their position as the stronger team on the pitch, with the majority of possession during the start of the half. Their perseverance soon paid off, with Hattie opening the scoring and leaving the score 1-0 to Yateley at half time.
After an inspiring team talk from the new Captain, Janette, the 2s stared the second half feeling positive and confident. The defensive line including Jo, Hobbit and new member Lucy remained strong, but unfortunately Fareham managed to squeeze a ball over the line to draw the scores level. Not willing to give up any more opportunities, Yateley kicked it up a gear, winning a number of short corners and putting the pressure on Fareham once again.
Before long, Hattie helped the 2s into the lead again with her second goal of the game. This was followed by another short, with a slip to Nat and a finish by Hattie proving to be the winning combination. Some set play and textbook passing between the likes of Janette and Alana soon set Aimee up with a clean strike on goal to finish the game at 4-1 to Yateley.
Overall an extremely positive game from Ladies 2s, with what looks to be a winning season ahead!
