Promotion hopes dashed, but the team spirit shines on!

Petersfield 6 Yateley 0

After last week’s difficult but hard fought match, Yateley Ladies 2s were ready for a win. On the journey down to Petersfield we had time to reflect and as the dark rain clouds rolled over the pitch the match began.

The ladies went out full of confidence and determination, ready to beat 7th place Petersfield in order to give us a chance of promotion. Unfortunately quite early on a penalty flick was awarded to the opposition, quickly followed by 2 additional goals, making it 3-0. Heads were starting to drop as the skies opened, but thanks to true team morale and Hannah for stepping in as captain, Yateley carried on fighting.

At half time it was 5-0 and Yateley knew they had a lot of work to put in to compete with this team. “Attack is the best form of defence” was the chosen motto for the day and in the second half that came to fruition. Yateley put in an awesome show of team work as the forwards worked off of the defence and the ball remained for the most part in their half. Natalie got a little bit too enthusiastic and was sent off with a green card for not taking 5. Due to the numerous saves Kate made, and the defence working tirelessly, we finished the second half with 1-0 on the score card, with an overall score of 6-0.

Walking off the pitch the spectators would have thought us mad; all smiles and soggy clothing, Yateley continued to hold their heads high. That’s the spirit of the club and it was nice to be seen reflected in the Ladies’ faces.

The only way to go is up, and the Ladies 2s will have that attitude coming in to Saturday’s match. Come on girls!
