Southampton Uni 3-5 Yateley

Yateley Ladies 1s headed away to play Southampton University with anticipation, but motivation due to a defeat earlier in the season.

Yateley started off quietly whilst Southampton came out strong with an early attack which allowed them to squeeze in an early 1-0 lead within 10 minutes.

Yateley stepped up their communication rapidly and went on to attack which resulted in a scramble in the D with JCG pushing the ball against the backboard creating an early equaliser. Yateley had some hairy moments after that with Southampton creating chances in their D almost pushing two over the line, but Lizzie calmly swooped in and cleared both their chances.
Yateley managed to secure a second goal by JCG after another break down in play after a short corner and Yateley went into half time leading 2-1.
After a change of ends, Yateley got further ahead by JCG’s hat-trick of the day. This was much to Southampton’s dislike & they managed to get on the counter attack and from a sequence of passes down the middle scored 2 timely goals to equalise again.

With all to play for Yateley found a burst of energy and pushed higher with some great runs and attacks by Lozza and Kealey upfront creating more opportunities and winning more short corners.

Unfortunately unable to find a route to the goal, and after another scramble in the D, Yateley won a penalty flick which was neatly put into the right corner by Gemma.
With not long to go and another run in play with a long ball from JCG in the middle to Lozza who made a run and then slipped to Lynn who neatly hit it into the goal. With less than 2 minutes to go Yateley held on to secure a 5-3 win!
