Spirits stay high despite a rain-sodden match

Yateley 3-4 Isle of Wight

After wading through the swamped car park, our ladies 1s were looking to rebound from last week with a win against Isle of Wight. Braving the torrential rain and icy wind, spirits weren’t dampened and a bright start was had by all.

With a short break after the oppo took a hit to the chest, the ladies were caught on a quick break to take them 1-0 down. Heads were still high, and despite the reds having a lot of the possession, they quickly went 2-0 down. They built on this, and with a slick dummy by Jen CG, Lynn took an early shot and slotted it inside the GKs left post. Annoyingly another quick break saw them go down 3-1 into half time.

Keen to get going again, they pressed hard, and after a great run from Gibo down the line and into the D, saw the girls win another short corner. Gibo took advantage of the space to the left, with Jen CG making the final touch to put it in the back of the net to make it 3-2.

After another annoying quick break from the oppo, they went 4-2 down, with them tapping it in on the far post past Nicki.

Knowing a point was within reach, the girls continued to fight, and with a switch of play from Gemma and Caz, Fran sent the ball flying towards the goal, with Mel making the deflection to put it past the GK.

It finished an annoying 4-3, but with plenty of positives to take to next week, the Ladies 1s are ready and raring to face local rivals Fleet and Ewshot. Bring it on.
