Portsmouth 1-0 Yateley

After a stunning victory overseas, the Ladies 1s returned to dry land to take on Portsmouth in the Hampshire Cup.
They were in command of the game first half, with excellent links between players, great pressure to win back any 50-50 balls and solid in defence. So many shots on goal, so many attacks, but the back of the net was elusive in the first half, even the P-flick awarded for a goal-saving foot in front of the line.

The girls begin to tire a little second half in the biting wind and with no subs, after Nat Harte had gone down with an early hand injury. Portsmouth managed to grab a little possession, but the Yateley girls dug in and defended well, regaining composure to build the attacks again. A couple of short corners and the girls came so close again, with shots on the edge of the D from Mel, Jen and Emma. More shots just in front of goal by Lozzer, Nay and Janette, but still couldn't find the backboard.

Portsmouth pushed again with great speed through the middle, switch to the left and back in...bam - back of the net, 1-0.

The reds kept calm and continued with excellent tackles in defence from Lizzie M, Jen CG and Frances to make sure the Portsmouth lead didn't build. Some breakthroughs again at the front, but the goal bank had clearly gone overdrawn from their flurry of six on Saturday.
Well done to Player of the Match, Emma....& well earned DoD for Nat!

Final score 1-0 to Portsmouth.
