Disappointing Derby result

Basingstoke 2-1 Yateley

The Ladies 1s met bright and early for a local-ish derby against Basingstoke. The team delved into a deep and meaningful chat in the changing rooms where Clara (DoD) divulged her life-long fear of Morris dancers (who, to be fair, are quite scary as 'you can't tell who they are, cos of the face-paint'?)! The delicate warm-up on the slippery athletics track, and team bonding from coveting Basingstoke's green 'box of lego', Yateley were raring to go - if only the umpire was there to start the match!

....and start they did - in great style with amazing runs from Becks, Lozzer and Lynn resulting in an early goal to the delight of supporters. Throughout the first half there were some amazing one twos with cool, calm and collected passing to connect right the way from defence to attack. Half time came with the visitors holding a 1-0 lead, but having increased pressure from Basingstoke forwards.

Jen C-G rested second half with Emma England taking the mantle to hold the centre - well executed! Lizzie Messenger was solid in defence, yet again, with great block tackles in the D and attacking runs up the right side to the baseline, providing width and depth to the team structure. Basingstoke had the bit between their teeth, however, and managed to crack home a great conversion from a penalty corner. Yateley pushed on, but lost momentum on the 50/50 balls where Basingstoke posted up....and Yateley didn't. A second goal was unluckily conceded after 2 v 1 in the D to make the final score a disappointing 2-1 loss.
