Chilly day, without a winning warmer

Andover 2 Yateley 0

It was hand warmers and hugs all round on Saturday to fight off the returning winter chill in Andover. The visitors went down 1-0 in the second quarter with a great take by Andover out of nowhere - a real shame after solid defending from persistent attacks. Yateley regained composure quickly and pushed forward, winning a penalty corner. The straight strike from Rachel P at the top of the D deflected into the goal, but was unfortunately disallowed, after much discussion between the umpires, as the first strike was deemed to be above the backboard.

To Yateley's credit, the team re-focused on the game straight away and really believed the points were there for the taking.

Half time was huddled in the dug out to escape the windchill and set the team on controlling the midfield. There were great attacking moves up the right, with Mel navigating around the defenders with admirable skill. Alyssa's speed and Gibbo's determination saw strikes on goal, but nothing past the keeper. Lizzie M put in a solid performance at the back again, as well as supporting the attack, winning a penalty corner up front from one of her baseline runs. Caty S worried the defenders, like a persistent terrier on their heels and was so unlucky not to score from a flick at goal - well done keeper :-(.

Andover were still good with the counter though and had the numbers up front for any well-placed passes through the middle. They had one goal disallowed, but quickly followed up to get their 2nd. Yateley kept attacking to the last whistle, and were disappointed not to get the score they deserved from their performance.

Final score 2-0 to Andover.
