Determination wins the day!!

Yateley 4-2 Abingdon

The Ladies 1st XI were determined to get 3 points against Abingdon after a frustrating couple of games.
Yateley looked confident from the start and played some lovely passing hockey, linking up well and making Abingdon chase down the ball. Talking through the press has really helped and Yateley were really disciplined and Abingdon struggled to find a way through.
It was only a matter of time before the first goal came and Ruth ran down the right side of the pitch, through a selection of clattering sticks and slipped the ball to the P-spot where Nat calmly finished. Yateley continued to apply pressure and, with Jen, Sophie, Kate and Na clearing up stray balls in defence, the Yateley forward line continued to push forward. The second goal came from a well-rehearsed ‘box’ at a penalty corner which Hannah confidently fired into the back of the net to bring the score to 2-0 at half-time.
The second-half began with what has, unfortunately, become a more regular occurrence than we would like. Some careless play allowed Abingdon to monopolise on errors and very quickly, and against the run of play, Abingdon had scored two goals to draw level.
Yateley were not going allow 3 points to slip away and some determined play in the D (and some excellent goal-keeping from the Abingdon keeper) saw a shot rebound to KJ who slipped the ball into the goal to bring the score to 3-2. Yateley regained their composure and returned to playing some excellent and measured hockey. A great move, which started with Jen in defence and saw the ball work through midfield, allowed Kealey score another to bring the final score to 4-2.
Having watched their lead slip away, Yateley showed real determination to not allow their heads to go down and dominated the majority of the game. It was a very well-deserved 3-points.
