Wet weather withers not our stoic red & white army!

Yateley 5-4 Andover

U16 boys took on Andover in the pouring rain, and we certainly knew it would be a tough one from past Andover form. The opposition arrived without a goal keeper and playing 11 outfield, which we knew would be tricky, but could use to our advantage.

This was the 1st game the boys have played together as a unit, and boy did they do it well. Ben Faulkner, today's Captain, led the boys confidently on and off the pitch, and ensured positive feedback and calm vibes were flowing throughout the game. They kept their heads held high, even when behind on the score sheet.

Andover quickly opened the scoring putting them ahead, which was a running theme throughout. From that point onwards, Yateley fought back each time they were behind to level the playing field and unsettle the opposition.

Half time talk was a combination of pure excitement for the boys for having the left over ladies 2's sweet box at their disposal (demolished very quickly), mixed with some very constructive feedback from many of the team to take them confidently and positively into the 2nd half.

The boys really worked hard for each other, and were relentless with their 'eyes down' pressure tactics, fighting hard and strong for every ball. Their determination and tenacity to get that ball into Yateley's possession was incredible to witness from the sideline.

Throughout the continuous chase to level the score, Macca got 3, and Seb joined the score tally also with a lovely finish into the back of the goal. It was a nail biting 4-4 for the last 11 minutes and the deciding goal, was a super smooth penalty flick from Macca.

Boy's choice: Man of the match today went to Macca, for his outstanding contribution to the game, and also securing his hat trick +1.

Well done boys, you deserved to win that game, and you have all earned a big pat on the back. We can't wait for the next game, which is the 4th November away @ A&F. Thanks to all the soggy parents and YHC players for their support also on the sidelines... #Winnerswearred
