Wimborne 0-7 Yateley

Yateley Men’s 2XI started the day battling the long journey to Dorset, with 3 players getting caught up in traffic, just making it to the pitch just moments before pushback. We knew that any form of result today would be great considering the distance that was travelled. It would be a long and lonesome road home if we lost.

Yateley applied the pressure on Wimborne battling hard to draw first blood. Super sub Jake Morgan came on a like a flash and within moments had bagged the first goal, swallowing up the ground, rounding 3 defenders easily with his pace and popped the ball past the outstretched and helpless goalkeeper. A fantastic individual run and keeping the Yateley unbeaten record intact for the moment.

Yateley then began turning the screw with a bombardment of hard and fast attacks. Keeping to the tactics and high intensity from the previous week, we began to dominate the game with close chances a plenty. Jake Morgan collected a loose ball and teased the pressurising left back. With some quick passes an overload occurred in their D. Dan Cundy played the ball across and Jake scored his second of the game. It was only a matter of time before Yateley scored again, after another exciting string of quick passes and flowing hockey, Jake Morgan popped the ball across and Lee Creswell scrambled the ball over the line for his first goal of the season, clashing with the goalkeeper in the process.

Yateley, 3-0 up and cruising had set up camp in the Wimborne half. Jake Morgan, Stuart Brimble, Jim Boffin and Lee Creswell carving through Wimborne like a hot knife through butter. Jim using some classy stick skills and his pace, bypassed the final defender and slotted the ball across to Dan Cundy who calmly put the ball through the keeper’s legs and found himself on the scoresheet for the first time this season.

A healthy 4-0 lead at half time and Yateley were hungry for more. Relentless, ferocious and determined, they hunted Wimborne down like a pack of starving wolves that hadn’t fed for the past week. One again the midfield pressed high up the pitch with Calum Henderson, Matt Swinyard and Ben Hopper all getting close chances on goal. Stuart Brimble found himself in acres of space wide on the right, he rounded the defender and ran the by-line. He pulled the ball dangerously across the D, finding hitman Jim Boffin unmarked, who swept the ball in and increased the lead to 5!

Wimborne deflated and struggling, Yateley push for further humiliation. The ball was played hard down the line and to Stuart Brimble who again ran the by-line. He bulled the ball back to James Woolner who fired a low flowing rocket at the keeper. Matt Swinyard stepped in front and delicately deflected the ball in a looping motion over the keeper and into the net! Another first goal of the season and the game was well and truly over.

With one final press, the ball was passed fast across the pitch and down the line to Stuart Brimble who again fired in a cross that flew past the last defender, finding a flying Jim Boffin at the back post who scored with a dive and roll. 7! An amazing result for Yateley Men’s 2XI. Not only does the unbeaten run go on but they are safe at the TOP of the table. Unbeaten in 4 games now and we host a tough, top of the league clash with a strong performing Swanage team next weekend.

Congratulations to Jim Boffin who earnt man of the match for his incredible performance, an assist and 2 goals.
