Yateley 3-5 Hamble
It was always going to be a tough Cup game vs Hamble & so it proved as the visitors slotted home a goal straight from the pushback.
The Yateley boys took a while to settle against this fiery oppo with some necessary great defending early on, and building the possession. But Hamble demo-ed fine skills to knock in a 2nd on the rebound.
Not sure what had been said in the pre-match team talk, but the home team kept their heads, built the game again & were rewarded with their first to buoy the sideline supporters... who were further bolstered when the 2nd hit the backboard after some great play down the right!
2-2 wasn’t in Hamble’s game plan and the less stable amongst them were clearly rattled..... green, yellow & some deserved time out gave Yateley the edge in numbers for Ali Hay to push the reds in front. 3-2, to the delight of players & supporters alike!
Unfortunately short-lived as Hamble slotted in their equaliser just before the break, despite an amazing initial save from Keeper Cresswell.
The second half saw more action ... & many discussions ... resulting in cards of the non-greeting kind for Hamble... green, yellow.
Sooo close to the next score by Yateley as the calm heads continued, but Hamble nabbed another- and then another to close out at 3-5.
It was a disappointing final result, but t his was a good performance by Yateley hockey-wise.. and a great performance in behaviour & respect of the game!
