Sweltering form for the comeback kids!

Yateley 3-2 Wallingford

Sunday 12th May saw the newly formed Yateley Ladies Masters team take to the pitch for the first time against Wallingford. In tropical conditions it took time for the team to gel and Wallingford scored two goals in quick succession. Yateley battled hard but found it hard to penetrate the Wallingford D and went into half-time 2-0 down.

A slight adjustment in formation up front meant Yateley had some good periods of play and began to pile the pressure onto Wallingford.

A run by Ruth into the D found a Wallingford foot and, opting for a straight strike, Fran crashed the ball in for Yateley’s first goal.
Yateley really picked up the pace and began playing the ball more confidently around the back allowing Jules, Alana and Gibo to push through from midfield. The increased pressure led to Jen’s shot on goal being followed up by Becks who slotted the ball away to draw even.

Wallingford stepped up their game after the equaliser, forcing Nicki to make some great saves and kept the Yateley defence on their toes.

Nearing the end of the match Alana picked the ball up wide on the left and drove down the left wing. A great pass back to Ruth allowed another run into the D which found Janette who scored Yateley’s third goal.

Final score 3-2 to Yateley. A great performance from a new squad and through to the next round!
