Yateley’s invitation XI travelled to Ashford (Mddx) to play a friendly against the old club for many. With pre-match ceremonies completed: a gift exchange and a minute’s silence in memory of the passing of a dear member of our hockey family, the team began positively - battling the heat of the day as well as the opposition. Despite the mixed nature of the team, playmakers Gemma B, Lizzie G & Jen CG connected well with the players across the pitch which gave Yateley most of the attacking play. The goal from Lizzie G was well deserved to put Yateley on top in the first third of the match.

After a well-needed water break, Ashford came back with fresh
purpose and some determined attacking play. They equalised in the second third of the game, despite some cracking defending and saves from Gill Salter.

A longer rehydration break saw the final third with some excellent hockey and real end to end play. Ashford has some great shots on goal, but Yateley defended well - including great clearances from Hils H at short corners.

The draw was a fitting result for a balanced game played in the true spirit of the hockey family.
