Mini Hockey
Mini hockey is the foundation of the clubs development scheme, providing training that is fun as well as educational to up to the age of
10.
Who can play?

As children develop at different rates there is no hard and fast rule on the exact age when children can take part. In general
players will be in year 2 at school but if a child is physically and emotionally
capable to take part then they will be most welcome (we have some very good little
players who are only just 5).
What do they need?

We recognise that children can be somewhat fickle when it comes to choosing sports
so we have made trying hockey as simple as possible. At every training session and
tournament we provide a variety of sticks to suit a wide range of players (right
from the very smallest). All your child will need is a pair of suitable trainers
(not football boots as we train on astroturf) and a pair of shin pads (more information
here).
How does it work?

Mini hockey teams consist of 7 players on each side and is played across a quarter
of a full sized hockey pitch. The rules are amended somewhat to allow for a safer
game where the umpire is permitted to stop the game at any time in order to disperse
the players (as the term 'herding chickens' has often been mentioned in relation
to these games).
