Yateley Hockey Club - Junior Section
Yateley Hockey Club is particularly proud of its youth development
programme, providing coaching and matches for boys and girls from the age of 5
through to 18. Each age group has its own coach and manager, a mixture of
experienced players and parents.
New players can just turn up at one of the training sessions. If you would
like to know a bit more about the club first, please give Roger Bilton a call on
01252 658700.
Teams
Our youngest group is
the Minis (up the age of 8). The basic stick skills and teamwork are taught in
small groups, according to ability with the focus being on learning while having
fun. Mini hockey is played on a quarter pitch with seven players per side. We
enter teams at Under 10 and Under 8 in monthly festivals held across Hampshire,
and host our own festival during December.
At Under 12, players are introduced to eleven-a-side matches on a full pitch.
Boys and girls play together in matches every two or three weeks, providing a
balance between skills training and match play. From the age of 13, boys and
girls play in separate teams. The girls Under 14 and Under 15 have enjoyed
significant success, reaching the last 16 in the National Under 15 Cup last
season.and Under 18 play in leagues with matches every other week. We encourage
players to attend County trials, with typically one or two players in each team
going on to represent either Hampshire or Berkshire.
